Reese Witherspoon Picks Up 'Pennyroyal’s Princess Boot Camp'

Reese Witherspoon picks "Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp" as the first project of her and Bruna Papandreas' new banner Pacific Standard. They have nabbed the rights to the children's book series which was written by M.A. Larson, to be made a feature film.

Witherspoon, who is rumored expecting her first child, is attached to play a supporting role. Pacific Standard, which is also developing the two-book series, is looking at "Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp" as a potential franchise.

The first book of the series is the debut novel by Larson, a Minnesotan native who studied filmmaking at the University of Miami who became Nichols’ assistant when the legendary producer-director-writer was working on Angels in America, Closer and Spamalot. Larson later moved to Los Angeles where he was a staff writer on Cartoon Network shows and has been writing on various kids-oriented channels such as Disney XD, Nickelodeon and Discovery Kids.

Princess Boot Camp was recently picked up by Putnam’s Children’s as a two-book series.

Pacific Standard is developing the books, which is the first official project from the fledgling company, as a potential franchise.
“Finally, there is a princess story that reflects the values young women truly want to embody,” said Witherspoon in a statement.  “These princesses are strong, independent and fierce and the knights are their match. In telling their story, Larson has created a magical universe that everyone will love to get lost in."
